Chicago Gives Atlanta Their First Win

Chicago handed the Atlanta Dream their first win on Saturday night, 91-84.

Jia Perkins led the Sky with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Candice Dupree added 19 points.

Dominique Canty, who contributed 10 points, said that the loss hurt more than the others because they didn’t want to be the first team to lose to the Dream.

The game was exciting, going down to the last few minutes. In the first quarter the Sky had a 13-point lead but the Dream overcame that deficit and gained an 11 point lead by half time, 46-35.

In the second half, Atlanta was relentless. They were hitting all their shots and never gave up. By the fourth quarter, Chicago had gained a 1 point lead, 81-80, with less than 2 minutes left to play. But a few Chicago fouls later, Atlanta had a solid lead making a 6 point run to win, 91-84.

“We have to finish plays,” Sky coach Steven Key said. “There were several factors that contributed tonight, not just not getting rebound after missed free throws. We just couldn’t finish.”
